As businesses grow, so does the amount of data they capture.  There’s a treasure trove of information to be found lurking in your operational data store, but are you using it to advance your business?  In a recently published white paper, HMS Cornerstone Solutions explores that very idea and asks the question, “Is technology making us any smarter?” By applying technology as a tool to analyze that vast data store, builders are able to identify new market opportunities, negotiate more favorable deals with their trade partners and evaluate historical evidence leading them to adjust business processes which achieve positive outcomes.

Take a moment to check out the paper and discover how Cornerstone Solutions helps builders leverage the reporting power of informXL, using it as a tool for implementation or conversion and for ongoing day-to-day analytics. If you’re interested in learning how Center6 and Cornerstone Solutions can allow you to use your data as an effective tool, just let us know.  Together, we’ve solved unique data reporting challenges for dozens of builders and we’re here to address yours when you’re ready.

Want to Get Even More Value from Your informXL Reports? Use Grouping Functionality

You already know the Pivot Tables included in the informXL Analyzers, or those you build on your own, provide a summarized view of your transactional homebuilder data so you can make informed business decisions. They’re pretty straightforward, right? But, did you know you can group that same data within pivot tables to get different insights into your business performance? Yep, it’s easy to group data by date and by text to place the information provided in your reports in a more usable format. Using standard Excel functionality, Grouping allows you to:

•    Simplify pivot tables even further by grouping data into intuitive categories
•    View your data in a more meaningful format
•    Further manipulate data by subtotaling and sorting
•    Achieve a more refined set of data criteria

As part of our ‘Did You Know?’ series, Center6 has created two short videos that demonstrate the Grouping functionality in Excel, showing informXL example reports. Take a few moments to check them out.  The concept is the same, but the Group by Date fields versus Group by Text fields processes are slightly different.

Homebuilders who use informXL know that Microsoft Excel comes complete with a number of highly functional menu options, and the often underused Field Value Settings menu option is one you ought to get to know better if you want to really stretch the value of your Pivot Tables.

With just a couple clicks of your mouse, you can easily get even more information on the same data set within your Pivot Tables using the Field Value Setting menu option.

In the latest video from our ‘Did You Know?’ series, we show you how to look at your data in different ways, including:

  • Totals
  • % Of
  • Difference From
  • Rank

This recording features the Takeoff Margin Analyzer as the example, but Field Value Settings are available in ALL Analyzers to both NEWSTAR and FAST users.

Don’t limit yourself to just viewing the data in the standard format presented by a Pivot Table.  Instead, go ahead and make some creative adjustments to that same data set using Field Value Settings and gain incredible insight into your business operations! Watch the video to learn how.
