Support Bulletin 3-22-2016: Locky Virus

The recent “Locky” Virus has renewed the importance of keeping vigilant about network and PC virus security. This ransomware virus is carried through a Microsoft Word email attachment that when opened executes malicious macro code that encrypts local and network computer files and demands a ransom in order to obtain a decryption key. This virus poses a particular threat to businesses, as it targets local pc and network based files.

In addition to maintaining sound internal IT security policies (including user awareness, updated anti-virus and malware software, reliable off-site backups, etc.) informXL is now recommending setup of Trusted Locations and/or Trusted Documents for your informXL Analyzer files. Trusted Locations and Documents allow execution of Excel macros, but only for files originating from pre-established network locations.

For the latest informXL recommended guidelines on configuring Excel macros for the informXL Analyzer suite please refer to our most current informXL Analyzer User Setup Document. As well, detailed documentation regarding Trusted Documents, Trusted Locations and Office Group Policy management can be found through numerous online sources, including Microsoft’s support sites https://support.microsoft.com and https://technet.microsoft.com.
